Maidenhead 1 Tranmere Rovers 0

Maidenhead bounced back from defeat at Halifax to record an impressive win over promotion favourites Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday 12th September at a windswept and rain-beaten York Road Maidenhead thanks to Harry Pritchard’s memorable late winner.

Page Hardy Harris, one of the sponsors of the event, enjoyed a team evening out and did not let the weather dappen their spirits as they supported the home team.  Mark Harris, Kieran Webber and Sarah Webb represented our Maidenhead team and Nick & Julia Hardy, James Page and Hannah Taylor Brewin came from our Bracknell offices.  James Page commented:-

“Despite the weather it was a fantastic evening with a great atmosphere.  To be at a home game and watch Maidenhead win the pre-season title favourites, Tranmere, was an added bonus.”

The reshuffled side put in a notable performance on the night on a sodden York Road surface and ultimately clinched the win with minutes remaining as the impressive fitness levels of our part-timers came to the fore once again against full time opposition.

The first half played in constant autumn rain was a cagey affair with clear-cut chances at a premium. It took until the stroke of half time for either ‘keeper to be truly tested when Pritchard took aim with a curling effort from range expertly tipped behind by Davies.

The second half opened up somewhat with by now more opportunities opening up at either end. There was barely 2 minutes left of normal time when the breakthrough came. Pritchard swung a right foot at the ball and found the corner with a low effort which sent Bell Street ballistic.
