30 May Mark Harris completes the 7th IAS SEGRO Charity Cycle Ride
Last Thursday 24th May 2018, Mark Harris from our Maidenhead office joined 107 other riders on the 7th IAS (Industrial Agents Society) Charity Cycle Ride, sponsored by SEGRO.
A new venue at Amersham and Chiltern Rugby Club presented the riders with the challenge of the Chilterns. With a choice of three distances of 75 miles, 40 miles and a new distance of 20 miles, designed to attract those riders previously put off by the longer distances, Mark opted for the 40 mile route, which climbed a total of 2,148 ft throughout the day.
Despite a miserable weather forecast and a drizzly start to the day, the weather improved and a dry day resulted in an enjoyable ride followed by a BBQ at the Rugby Club.
In his second year of riding the event, Mark was looking forward to the challenge. ”The weather in the lead up to the ride was fantastic, but the forecast for the day itself was heavy rain and thunder storms. The drive to Amersham in heavy rain was a little off putting but then the sun came out. I rode in a group of about 10-15 riders, on a hybrid bike, after struggling last year with the cleats on my road bike. We had a very enjoyable day, despite cycling a few extra miles after we missed one of the arrows on the route and completed the ride in just under three hours. Thank you to the IAS and SEGRO for organising and supporting the event”.
The ride raised approximately £3,500 for each of the chosen charities – Land Aid – the property industry charity, who work to end youth homelessness in the UK and the IAS charitable cause of 2018 – The Faraway Children’s Charity – established to meet the diverse needs of disadvantaged, vulnerable or at risk children and young people within Northamptonshire and the surrounding areas.
